Natural Hazards
A natural Hazard is a natural event that occurs on, above or under the earths surface and has the potential to cause harm. Natural hazards endanger life, the environment and the landscape. Although they occur naturally, some areas of the world are more vulnerable to hazards. There are six broad types of hazards
As seen, in the map on the right, natural hazards occur in areas where the conditions suit the disaster; i.e droughts occur in areas that are hot and barren, like parts of central Australia. Natural Hazard warnings are sent out by the NSW bureau of meteorology and SES within New South Wales. |
Natural Disasters
A natural disaster is a catastrophic event that is caused by natural process. A natural disaster is the result of the natural hazard. Australia experiences a wide range of natural disasters like bush fires, floods, tropical cyclones and severe storms. However, natural disasters are considered integral in the regeneration of bushland and their surroundings. Recently, modern technology has somewhat reduced the impact of these events. However, disasters still have a disastrous effect. Impact of Natural disasters Natural hazards and disasters have social, economical and Environmental impacts; Social- Natural disasters impact the local communities. The destruction of property, business and livestock, impact societies and global communities Environmental- Natural disasters have disastrous impacts on environmental processes. Natural disasters not only destroy bushland, but also collapse entire ecosystems. Economic- Natural disasters impact the economic value of a place or town. They also impact tourism and business within an area. |
